Punk Love: Edgy Family Photo Session in Fortitude Valley

Recently, I had the pleasure of photographing the coolest family in Brisbane. Amy and Steve are both tattoo artists, and they wanted a session that reflected their punk-inspired style. I was immediately excited - this was my chance to finally photograph a family that didn't want to stand in a field of flowers holding hands!

We started the session by exploring the back alleys and graffiti-covered walls of Fortitude Valley. Amy and Steve looked effortlessly cool, while their small human J was a natural in front of the camera - I'm pretty sure they’re going to be the most incredible adult!

As we walked around, I couldn't help but feel like I was part of an underground punk band. Maybe I could be the drummer? Anyway, we stopped at various locations to capture some edgy shots. At one point, even posing in the gutter, but hey, that just added to the punk rock vibe, right?

Throughout the session, I encouraged the family to have a laugh, interact with each other in way that felt natural to them and show off their unique style. We had a lot of fun experimenting with different poses and expressions, because let's face it, punk isn't just about looking cool - it's also about having fun and being yourself.

After the session, I sent the family the photos, and they were ecstatic. They loved the edgy, urban feel of the images. I'm pretty sure I've now been promoted from drummer to photographer in their hypothetical band.

In conclusion, this session was a reminder that family photos don't have to be boring and stuffy. You can have fun and embrace your unique style, even if that means getting a little edgy and gritty.

Stay tuned for Amy and Steve’s wedding; coming soon!

I would like to acknowledge that this session was held on the traditional lands of the the Yurarabul people, and pay my respect to Elders both past, present and future.
